How to Register MFA on Microsoft
Updated over a week ago

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an essential extra layer of security to protect your access. In this guide, we provide a detailed step-by-step process to configure MFA on the platform, ensuring greater protection for your account.

This process can be followed both when creating a new credential and when editing an existing one.

First step: Access your Microsoft profile

Log in to your Microsoft account and go to your profile settings.

Second step: Add a new authentication method

In the "Security Info" menu, click on "+ Add a sign-in method".

A new screen will appear with the available authentication options. Select "Microsoft Authenticator".

Then, click on "I want to use a different authenticator app", and then click "Next".

The platform will display a QR Code and the option to obtain a manual code. You can take a screenshot of the QR Code to use it later or click on "Can't scan image?" to manually copy the code.

Third step: configure MFA on the platform

Access the platform and go to the credentials menu. Click on + Add Credential and scroll to the bottom of the page. In the MultiFactor Authentication field, click on Click to load a QR code.

At this stage, you will have two options:

  • Use a file: Click on Choose File and upload the QR Code image you saved in the previous step.

  • Enter a manual code: Click on I have a code and enter the code generated earlier.

After filling in the required information, click Save to complete the configuration.

Fourth step: Validating MFA

Now that MFA has been registered, hover your mouse over the credential. A lock icon will appear. Click on it to generate the MFA code.

Copy this code, as it will be needed to validate the authentication on the Microsoft website, where we left off previously.

On the Microsoft website, click "Next", paste the generated code, and click "Next" again.

Done! MFA has been successfully registered on your platform.

Note: Whenever you use this credential in an asset, a VaultOne pop-up will appear on your screen with the authentication code.

Please contact our support ([email protected] or via Chat inside the platform) if you need any help.
